Frequently Asked Questions
Zeal for Life Product and Label Updates
1. What is new?
According to the American Medical Association, everybody should consider adding nutritional supplements to their diet. As our lives grow busier and more demanding, the typical American diet has become increasingly deficient in key nutrients and richer in empty calories. Zeal has 150 mg of Gamma Oryzanol. The recommended dose of Gamma Oryzanol is 300mg per day and can be provided in two servings of Zeal. Clinical trial results from independent third-party research firm, KGK Synergize. Additionally, we’ve replaced Inulin with Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) in Zeal to provide even more nutrition. The bioavailability of FOS as a prebiotic is superior to Inulin.
See #4 FOS vs. Inulin.
2. What are the health benefits associated with Gamma Oryzanol?
- Supports healthy cholesterol levels already in the normal range
- Supports healthy blood glucose levels already in the normal range
- Supports normal immune function
- Supports normal antioxidant response to oxidative stress
- Supports healthy weight management and Metabolic Syndrome
- Supports muscular strength
- Provides neuroprotection and normal cognitive function and mood
- Supports protection and maintenance of skin at all life stages
- Supports healthy hair and nails
- Supports healthy liver function
3. What is FOS and why was it added to Zeal?
FOS (fructooligosaccharides) are non-digestible soluble fibers that are, like inulin, defined as “prebiotics” because they provide support for the bacteria in our gut. FOS and Inulin add a slight sweetness as well. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are included in ZEAL as a replacement for Inulin, which is currently in short supply on a global basis.
4. FOS vs. Inulin. What is the difference?
Scientific studies suggest that FOS may be an even better prebiotic than Inulin – it’s molecular composition and chemical makeup give it the edge! Because of its longer chain length and higher molecular weight, Inulin can be harder for friendly bacteria to break down by fermentation and therefore will take more time to support normal bacteria growth. Therefore, all the healthy benefits of friendly gut bacteria proliferation may be LESS with Inulin than FOS.
5. What are prebiotics?
Prebiotics are chemically categorized as polysaccharides molecules of sugars that support the development of healthy gut bacterial flora.
6. What are soluble fibers?
This type of fiber dissolves in water to form a gel-like material. It also supports healthy blood cholesterol and glucose levels already in the healthy zone as part of a healthy diet. Both FOS (fructooligosaccharides) and Inulin are well known substances that act as soluble fiber.
7. Will this impact flavor?
No, your favorite Zeal flavors will still taste the same.
8. Why does my label and caloric intake look different?
Zurvita prides itself on working cooperatively with manufacturers to stay in total compliance
with FDA labeling requirements. Recent updates to the required information on the Nutrition Facts label requirements were implemented to make it easier for consumers to make better informed food choices. Zeal’s labels were updated to reflect the updated labeling guidelines, which include changes in how the number of calories is calculated.
Note: The formulation of Zeal HAS NOT changed in any way, but the rounding guidelines regarding how the calories are shown on the Nutrition Facts Panel have changed. New labels will show more calories, but the product is the exact same.
Caloric round up explained
Before Zeal’s caloric intake read 40 or 50 per serving (depending on product)– now it will say 50 or 60 as the rules of how you show the number of calories has changed. Example: Fiber isn’t digested by your body. Instead, it passes intact through your stomach, small intestine, and colon and out of your body. Now the 2 calories per gram from soluble fiber must be included in the number of calories – where before it did not have to be included. Learn more by visiting the FDA page.
9. Did the weight of the product change?
No – only the volume (available head space once filled) did. There’s still 420g of product in the jar. Originally 14g fit comfortably in the 29cc scoop due to the smaller particle size of inulin. Now we have increased to the 35cc scoop because the particle size of the FOS is larger than inulin, thus needing more volume in the scoop to maintain that original 14g serving size.
10. Why did the scoop size change from 29cc to 35cc?
The number of servings per container is still 30. Additionally, the container weight is still 420 grams but the amount of product per scoop increased by 8.5%. The bulk density changed when we replaced Inulin with FOS. We maintained all aspects of the original finished product apart from the volume (NOT WEIGHT) of the scoop.
